City of Westminster
The City of Westminster is committed to making cycling a safe, enjoyable and practical method of transport in the borough. Anybody who lives, works or studies in the borough is entitled to our services and we actively encourage the use of them.
All our cycle training follows the national standards which include Level 1 (practising skills in an off-road environment to develop control), Level 2 (on minor, quiet roads) and Level 3 (complex road situations). To find out what the training is all about, check out this video.
We currently offer the following services:
- FREE 1 to 1 Cycle Skills sessions. Whether you're a first time rider or a regular cyclist looking to improve your skills, your instructor will tailor the session to suit your individual abilities and goals. - FREE Schools Cycle Training for schools who wish to book a course or for more information, select from one of the following levels: Level 1, Level 1 & 2 or Level 3
- FREE Themed Led Rides where we explore City of Westminster by bicycle with our experienced marshalls. See Upcoming Events below
- SUBSIDISED Basic Bike Maintenance courses. See Upcoming Events below
- FREE or SUBSIDISED Dr Bike Sessions where an experienced mechanic will check your bike is in good order. They’ll make minor adjustments there and then and advise you on any more complex fixes you may need. Please see the Westminster Cycling Events page for upcoming drop-in sessions, or if you’d like to arrange a session for your organisation please contact us.
If you need glasses or corrective lenses for distance viewing, please ensure you have them with you for the training. The council also recommends that cyclists meet the same or a higher standard of eyesight as drivers and motorcyclists, as stated in The Highway Code: they ‘must be able to read a vehicle number plate, in good daylight, from a distance of 20 metres (or 20.5 metres where the old style number plate is used).’
